Last week, I got a bit of a scare. What happened, my 69-year-old father was in intensive care in the cardiac unit at the hospital in our city. It seems dad was diagnosed with an atrial fibrillation and further tests revealed the danger of a future stroke.
Three days later, I was visiting with dad on my cell phone as he was strolling through a supermarket with my mom. How did he go from being pumped full of blood thinners and being barely able to move to being back home and gaining strength in just three days? Simple -- dad is in great shape. He's played tennis two to three times a week since he was 30-years-old and picked up golf (no carts -- he walks all 18 holes) after he retired. Dad has kept his weight down and has exercised regularly and that has paid off as he's aged.
Now, some of us aren't so lucky. We've let ourselves go over the years as we've focused on careers and other things that keep us immobile and out of shape. There is hope however -- companies like Beach Body have addressed the problem of getting in shape quickly by releasing products and programs such as the Extreme Body Workout.
